Michigan Moments

We took a whirlwind trip to Detroit to visit Steven and Olivia and acquaint ourselves with their new home.  We left Saturday morning and arrived shortly before 2 p.m.  We met Stevie and Olivia at Ford headquarters in Dearborn.  We arrived just in time for the last tour of the Rouge Factory that manufactures F150 trucks.

I think this is the first time in years that we all sat on the same row!

Reunited in Greenfield Village, MI at the Ford Museum before taking a tour of the Rouge Factory.

It was really interesting, but sadly we arrived after the assembly line had shut down. We toured the facility from the catwalk and saw the phases of assembly.  We were not allowed to take pictures so I can't share.  I would love to return and see the line in motion.

Loved this sculpture and sign.

Back to the Future

After our walk, we drove to an old mansion called The Whitney that has been turned into a restaurant and had dessert.  It was really fun and the whipped cream was delicious.  By then it was late and we were tired so we sent Lisa with S & O and the rest of us drove to our hotel in Utica.

Still no smiles

It's almost a smile because he ate it all!

Funny story about our hotel room.  It had a wall of glass blocks between the beds and the bathroom. That meant no privacy while in the bathroom.  Great couple room--not so great with kids.  Hint: pull the shower curtain when using the toilet and shower with all the lights out.

Sunday morning we slept in and then drove to Stevie's apartment.  We went to church together and then changed for more sightseeing.  We drove to FCA and were able to drive around the campus and see where Olivia works.  We also visited the Detroit temple.  It is tiny!  I want to see inside to see how they arranged everything.  Our final stop was the metropark, but we arrived too late to rent kayaks or paddle boats, so we played in the water and admired the scenery until hungry children demanded dinner.

Olivia's parking lot in outer darkness since she drives a non-FCA car.
That building far in the background is where she works. It's huge!

Making ourselves at home.

Back at S&O's apartment, they prepared stir fry for us and gave us Mochi as appetizers because we were starving.  We visited until 10 p.m and then headed back to the hotel because we had an early flight the next morning.

All in all a wonderful time in Michigan!
